European football club Manchester United revealed a cyber-security incident that impacted its internal systems.
The club does not reveal much details about what the hackers have accessed, but they said that the breach did not affect its primary media channels, such as their website and mobile apps.
They stated that they couldn’t say if the breach allowed the intruders to access data associated with fans or store customers.
The club officials detected and took immediate actions to contain the attack, thereby minimizing the impact. They are still investigating the incident by working with security experts. They have also notified the Manchester police.
Manchester United is the second major UK club to disclose a major security breach. A hacker accessed FC Liverpool’s IT network and collected data on the club’s fans in 2018.
Other UK football clubs were also targeted by spear-phishing attacks and BEC scammers in order to hijack club payments.
