When you apply for an Indian passport, there are chances that you will be filling up an online form and choosing an appointment date for the document verification process even before the passport application is processed.
There are numerous fake websites that assure the applicants to help them to fill the application form, arrange the necessary documents, schedule an appointment with their nearest Passport Seva Kendra along with a fee for providing these unauthorized services.
It has come to the notice of the Ministry that several sites and mobile apps are doing such fraudulent activities and an alert has been issued. In the Alert on Fake Websites related to Passport Services, citizens are warned that these fake websites are registered in the domain names ending with .org, .in and .com such as www.indiapassport.org, www.passportindiaportal.in, www.passport-india.in, www.passport-seva.in, www.applypassport.org.
Most of these websites look almost similar to the original official website of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, for applying Passport services.
Prof Triveni Singh IPS, SP, Azamgarh and a top Cyber Crime cop posted on LinkedIn that all the citizens applying for Indian Passport and other related services are advised NOT to visit the above-mentioned fraudulent websites or make payment related to passport services.
The official website of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India to apply the passport is https://portal2.passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/welcomeLink
There is also the mPassport Seva app available for Android phones and the Apple iPhone that can be installed to help applicants with the application process and scheduling of appointment.
